The IMBuildings LoRaWAN Infrared People Counter is a professional battery-powered people counting solution designed for accurate bidirectional counting of people passing through entrances, corridors and access points. Using active infrared beam technology, it delivers highly reliable occupancy data while preserving complete privacy, making it an ideal alternative to camera-based systems.
The system consists of a transmitter unit and a receiver unit that create an invisible infrared beam across a doorway or passage. Every interruption of the beam is analyzed to determine the direction of movement, allowing separate counting of people entering and leaving an area. This enables accurate occupancy monitoring for retail stores, offices, public buildings, schools, museums, transportation facilities and smart city applications.
Powered by replaceable AA batteries, the device requires no wiring, allowing installation within minutes. The infrared beam supports passage widths of up to 8 meters, making it suitable for narrow doors as well as wide entrances. Configuration is performed via NFC using an Android application or remotely through LoRaWAN downlinks.
Operating as a LoRaWAN Class A device, the People Counter supports OTAA, Adaptive Data Rate (ADR) and secure encrypted communication. It is compatible with virtually all public and private LoRaWAN network servers including The Things Stack, ChirpStack, Actility and other LoRaWAN infrastructures.
With a battery life of approximately one year, compact enclosure and proven infrared counting technology, the IMBuildings People Counter provides an accurate, privacy-friendly and maintenance-efficient solution for occupancy analytics and building optimization.
