The Dragino WSS-27 is a high-precision RS485 PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation) sensor, designed to measure the light available for plant photosynthesis in smart agriculture, greenhouses, crop research and environmental monitoring applications.
Unlike conventional light sensors that measure illuminance in lux, the WSS-27 measures photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) within the 400–700 nm spectral range, providing information directly relevant to plant growth and photosynthetic activity.
The sensor offers a measurement range of 0–2,500 μmol/m²/s, with 1 μmol/m²/s resolution and a published accuracy of ±2%, making it suitable for applications requiring detailed monitoring of plant-available light.
Its RS485 communication interface, with Modbus-compatible integration, enables connection to suitable weather station controllers, industrial monitoring equipment and data acquisition systems.
For wireless monitoring over a LoRaWAN network, the WSS-27 can be connected to a compatible controller, such as the Dragino WSC2-L Weather Station Controller (EU868), which collects the measurements and transmits them to a LoRaWAN network server.
The WSS-27 operates from a 5–24V DC power supply and is designed for low-power environmental monitoring installations.
With a published operating temperature range of −30°C to +75°C, the sensor is suitable for a wide range of agricultural and environmental monitoring conditions, subject to correct installation and protection of its connections.
By monitoring PAR levels, growers and researchers can better understand the light conditions affecting crops and use the data to support greenhouse lighting strategies, shading management and plant growth analysis.
The Dragino WSS-27 is an effective solution for precision farming, greenhouse automation, agricultural research and connected environmental monitoring systems.
Important: The WSS-27 is an RS485 PAR sensor, not a standalone LoRaWAN device. LoRaWAN communication requires a compatible external controller. PAR measurements in μmol/m²/s are not equivalent to illuminance measurements in lux or total solar irradiance in W/m².
